Take care of you

School is underway, and my family is in full-throttle...going in all different directions. The text I sent my husband today said “I miss you.” Between work, school, sports practices and games, etc., we find ourselves passing like ships in the night. I know this season will not be forever. And, our schedules are full of many good things. But, at times I find myself asking, "Where did Malinda go? What does she need?"

It is important to not lose myself. So, why does taking care of myself produce feelings of guilt and uneasiness? For example, I recently scheduled a much-needed massage. When I hung up the phone, I immediately struggled with conflicting feelings of anticipation and guilt. Anticipation for an hour with no distractions (phone off) and pain relief. Guilt for money and time spent on myself when it could be spent on others.

Self–Care Awareness Month is a time to remind us that taking care of ourselves, first and foremost, is essential. Self-care is often neglected in our everyday lives. We all tend to put others needs before our own and it is crucial to remember, that we cannot fill another’s cup from our own empty vessel.”

That massage I scheduled is tomorrow. I'm looking forward to it...guilt-free.

Be kind to yourself.
